AUTUMN HIGHLIGHTS 4

After being a negligent Cyclamen grower for years (get seed, plant, label and forget!) I'm trying to be a better one this year. A small greenhouse previously in shade is now in the sun, and is now....'The Cyclamen House'.

Seedlings are nurtured in 9cm pots under a shelf (using the 'Reading University method'), before moving to the nursery shelf on the back wall, where they can be watered and watched, with maximum ventilation from the louvred vent.

Pots along shelves either side hold mature plants ready to photograph and enjoy - once I have a stock of a particular species I can risk trying some in the garden to see how they do.

I'm especially enjoying some of the interesting leaf forms now appearing on tough old Cyclamen hederifolium - these are an added bonus alongside the interesting flowers.

The arrival of the flowers - starting with the white ones as early as August, and getting better and better through the autumn - certainly counts as an Autumn Highlight!
